Review: Hotel Show Dubai

BCFA organised a strong group of UK companies to exhibit at the prestigious Hotel Show Dubai in September with support from the UK Department of International Trade. Out of the 20 UK companies present, there were four BCFA Members exhibiting, including Burgess Furniture, Chad Lighting, Distinction Group and Hypnos Contract Beds.

The Hotel Show was inaugurated by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, Chairman & Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group. Following the grand opening, the first day of the show enticed a steady stream of visitors throughout the first few hours, as people were getting their bearings and understanding what was in store over the next few days. Design Insider took this opportunity to get some fabulous shots of the UK stands (see image gallery below). The footfall picked up throughout the day and there was a buzz of excitement through the halls. There were many fascinating and unique products showcased at the event, including some amazing features from our members.

The second day of the show began with a UK Business Breakfast, featuring a panel discussion on the Hospitality Industry organised by the British Embassy & Department of International Trade Dubai and BCFA. HM Consul General British Embassy Dubai, Mr Paul Fox provided the opening address and welcomed the panel consisting of Industry experts speaking on the topic of emerging trends in the tourism, hotel and hospitality sectors. The discussion was a remarkable success with a fantastic turnout and positive feedback. (We will be featuring another article on the BCFA Blog with a more in-depth discussion on topics covered during the session).

The panellists included:

Martin Cooper, Head of Development, Strategy and Investment, Deloitte

Neil Van der Veen, Principal, RMJM

Panos Loupasis, Vice President Development- ME&A, Wyndham Hotel Group

Overall, the show was extremely successful with new and exciting live features in well set out and clearly defined and sectorised halls. The rebrand of the look and feel of the show, the quality of the stands and displays at the show was exemplary.

The calibre of the visitors both from GCC and further afield was noticeable with influential hospitality designers and buyers attending. Visitors also including government officials who came in to support and meet the local and international suppliers.

We will be featuring further content from the Hotel Show including Q&A’s from BCFA members on how they found the Middle Eastern market, a highlights video from the show and an article from the Business Breakfast, highlighting the key topics discussed so keep your eyes peeled!

The next edition of the show will take place from 16-18th September 2018 in Dubai.
