MILLIKEN GIVES BACK DURING RECORD BREAKING COMMUNITY WEEK

During September 2024 Milliken Associates braved the inclement weather to give back to their local community. For the 4th year running Milliken Floors held a ‘Community Week’ from their Wigan headquarters. Milliken team members, across all departments, devised plans with local charities and organisations to find out how they could best support local community groups.

Milliken teamed up with a record number of neighbouring organisations and over one hundred volunteers worked with six different community projects: Beech Hill Community Primary School, FoodCycle, Makants Greyhound Rescue NW, Meadows – Appley Bridge, One Vision Studios and Springfield, Beech Hill and Gidlow Community Hub.

Year 5 and 6 students from Beech Hill Community Primary School spent time at Milliken’s Wigan HQ  learning about the skills required to create carpet tiles. The pupils took part in interactive sessions to create their own tiles. The winner will visit Milliken’s factory to see their own design being created.

Over at Makants Greyhound Rescue NW, Milliken volunteers got hands-on sprucing up the centre, painting fences and the kennel block. They went on to redecorate the Enrichment Room, giving it a fresh, welcoming look.

At Springfield, Beech Hill and Gidlow Community Hub Milliken volunteers installed carpet tiles – Milliken’s award winning ‘Clerkenwell’ collection, made in Wigan. Helping to make this community hub even more welcoming.

Milliken volunteers worked hard at The Meadows in Appley Bridge helping to de-head and de-seed the current crop and tidy the area. Day two involved prepping the ground for new life, as a whole kilo of butterfly and bee-attracting seeds were planted - a beautiful boost for local biodiversity. The team also tidied up allotment plots, prepped the orchard for winter, and even repaired the perimeter fence.

One Vision is a non-profit group that provides training courses for people with learning disabilities. Here, the Milliken team installed flower beds and sleepers. They removed some metal work and transformed picnic benches with a fresh lick of colourful paint.

Milliken’s HR Business Partner Emma Thomas had this to say: “Community Week is something that I am incredibly proud to be part of. From humble beginnings, it’s been an absolute pleasure to watch the initiative grow from strength to strength over the years. It’s been amazing to watch the camaraderie between colleagues and the impact that we’ve had on our local community.”
