After much anticipation, Clerkenwell Design Week made it’s bold return, flooding the streets of Clerkenwell with splashes of pink and buzzing designers, eager to get back into the swing of the event after a 2 year hiatus. From the 24th - 25th May 2022, the immersive showroom event provided designers and architects with a range of activities, food & beverages and all-important product launches.
Here we are highlighting a selection of #CDW22 showrooms, events and products which bring to life key event trends including innovation and sustainability.
With a focus on the agile workspace, BCFA members showcased their latest technology and products that support the changing workplace.
Wiesner Hager released the Puc stacking chairs, which owes its popularity to its wide range of variants and hidden features that are cleverly integrated into the design of the chair. The ingeniously simple, plastic linking system is hidden inconspicuously beneath the lateral shell moulding.
Inspired by outdoor living, the new Rosa chair by Boss is an elegant design, and boasts a lightweight tubular frame.
Elite’s showroom was buzzing, and we were lucky enough to receive a new product tour. The Oases, yet to be launched, is a new panel and seating range that offers flexibility in creating different shapes for agile working.
KI Europe were back with their KI House concept, bursting with colour from flower arranging classes, vector workshops and chocolate making classes. KI’s mission was to show people how you can change the office to get people back in again by showcasing Colonnade, designed to define spaces and enhance functionality.
Pledge by Edge Design showcased their latest chair, yet to be named, which features a wrap around effect providing acoustic quality.
Due for release by mid June, Gresham boasted their new seating collection, designed with a natural wooden frame and attention to detail, delivering a range that will stand out at the forefront of interiors. This was also accompanied by a new cabinet collection, detailed with chrome casting.
Members also had a clear focus on sustainability throughout the event, showcasing their latest sustainable products.
The Romo Group was set up in the beautiful church with brand Kirkby Design, showcasing the latest Spiral range, made entirely from recycled materials and is OekoTex certified.
We also spotted Muraspec inside the church too, with their popular Ted Baker collection.
Amongst the newly refurbished showrooms were Ege Carpets, with their striking new design, ReForm Transition. Using plastic bottles and old yarn fishing nets, Ege create the yarn for their carpets.
Camira Fabrics welcomed people into their refurbished showroom, but directed our attention to the back wall, showcasing their Quest and Oceanic collections. Through a continued partnership with the SEAQUAL Initiative, this recycled polyester fabric is created by recusing plastic from the sea.
Wagstaff also highlighted a collaboration with initiative Waste to Wonder, that has repurposed 2000 tons of office furniture to build new schools in Africa.
Ocee Design showcased their FourPeople range, using fully recyclable materials and designed for easy disassembly at the end of or for reupholstery.
Reupholstery proved a key theme throughout showrooms, and Morgan explores the concept of ‘renew’ through an immersive exhibition demonstrating their sustainable re-upholstery process. Showcasing a new feature to the Oslo collection, their new chair features a new cane detail.
Other exhibiting BCFA members included Bolon, Havwoods, Milliken, Vescom, Table Place Chairs, Naughtone, Roger Lewis, Satelliet - UK, Sedus Stoll, Iliv Contract Textiles, Edinburgh Weavers, Chieftan Fabrics, Connection Seating, BUK, Burgess and Abraham Moon.
