Review: Clerkenwell Design Week 2019

This year Clerkenwell Design Week celebrated its tenth anniversary and once again the BCFA and Design Insider team were back to visit the 27 BCFA Members exhibiting over the three days! There was an excited atmosphere through the streets of Clerkenwell with food stalls, bubbles flowing and live music - we also had the sunshine on our side which created a real festival vibe! Many of the exhibitors had really upped their game and we saw some stunning new product ranges and displays throughout the showrooms.

We selected some of our favourite highlights from our member showrooms to show you what we saw during our time at #CDW19!

Bisley showcased their beautifully hand-crafted modular storage and display system BOB created in collaboration with award winning British designer Paul Kelley. This year it won a Design Guild Mark award!

Burgess Furniture showcased their recent new releases include SmartRocks, a modular range of coastal-inspired seating with optional plug-and-play points, and Smart Qube, which transforms from formal business to relaxed leisure zone through a simple zip system.

ege Carpets displayed some of their collaborative work with world renowned interior designer Tom Dixon including the new addition to the ‘Industrial Landscape Collection’.

We received a fantastic tour around the Gresham showroom, and we loved this particular chair which caught our eye!

Havwoods, one of our newer members made an appearance around Clerkenwell with their Havwoods bus!

Herman Miller’s pop up installation at Brewyard House featured Aeron Hockey where visitors were invited to take part in some office Hockey!

2019 is a milestone year for Knightsbridge as they celebrate their 80th birthday, and with well-being the forefront of workplace thinking in 2019, during Clerkenwell Knightsbridge created a jungle! The furniture was covered with exquisite fabric featuring jungle creates and foliage from textile designers and BCFA Member Timorous Beasties.

Morgan invited artist David Shillinglaw back to their showroom to complete a showroom transformation with ‘Alive in the Human Hive’. This energetic and colourful art installation filled the main wall at the Morgan Showroom. It displayed a representation of human landscape, informed by both local and global environments and the way we experience the planet! To find out more about the designer, click here.

This year Newmor Wallcoverings exhibited for the first time at Clerkenwell Design Week. They showcased some of their brand-new patterns, with some sneak previews of designs from their upcoming launch in June! To find out more about the products, click here.

Panaz returned to Clerkenwell to share their newest collections this May. ‘Underground’ is a debut collection from Panaz designer Simon Attard, which is made from environmentally responsible recycled contract fabric. This collection reflects designs ordinarily with counterculture and misguidance, and in name, subtly references the increasingly disposable society and waste issues that we deal with every day, on our streets, underground in landfill, and in our oceans.

Protocol showcased AirWave, a new modular seating range. Perfect for a host of contact environments including Hotels, Offices, Universities and Public Lounges. Click here to find out more.

Roger Lewis teamed up with design studios and furniture consultants to launch its ‘industry first’ bespoke offering, The Customizer app. This app allows designers and specifiers to create their own fabrics to bring their projects to life! By uploading artwork or an image, they can use this app to work out how best to apply their original designs to a piece of furniture!

Vescom opened a brand-new permanent London showroom in the heart of Clerkenwell this year, and we loved it! The new showroom is housed within a 1890’s industrial brick building, and displayed an inspirational selection of their latest wallcoverings, upholstery and curtain fabrics.

Other BCFA Members exhibiting at Clerkenwell included: Amtico, Boss Design, Camira, Chieftain Fabrics, Edge Design, GROHE, Hansgrohe, KI, Milliken, Ocee Design, Orangebox, Sedus Stoll and Wagstaff.
