Opening up new markets- India
On Tuesday 10th October, UK India Business Council (UKIBC) and the British Contract Furnishing Association (BCFA) jointly hosted a ‘Opening up New Markets - India’ Seminar at the superb Interface Showroom in London.
With Brexit providing continuing uncertainty, India is a market to take note of, with an annual growth of 7% and an ever-increasing middle class.
The guest speaker Professor Mike Knowles, Dean, Sushant School of Design, covered the topics of design and product opportunities within hotels, offices, residential and commercial developments.
It was a most informative event with BCFA members Muraspec, Edinburgh Weavers and Burgess Furniture amongst the attendees. It was great to see the audience engage and interact with the speaker.
With two thirds of the world’s middle class are projected to be living in South East Asia by 2030, India is also a rapidly up and coming tourist destination. 65% of the population are under 35, and this brand conscious generation are looking for a Western lifestyle but with Indian influences. Their craving for new innovative ideas and a great respect for British design, creates a great opportunity for UK companies to take advantage of.
Keep an eye out for our article on the Knowledge Centre Export section which will feature in depth coverage of the content discussed at the seminar, including top 5 tips about exporting to India.
