The BCFA visited the Surface Design Show to catch up with the members who were exhibiting and view their latest product developments. The stand out product at the show for them was Alusid which is a new development in partnership with BCFA member Panaz. Alusid is an amazing product crafted from recycled glass and porcelain, is 100% UV, Fire and Frost proof and is itself entirely recyclable. Made in Britain and available in a huge range of finishes this is a versatile product to provide an interesting edge to a range of indoor or outdoor surfaces.
Other members exhibiting at the show included Vescom and Spradling. Vescom were showing a complete range of new products and showcased these using some beautifully upholstered cushion squares. Spradling had a sensational central position right at the front of the exhibition and as a consequence were so busy that the BCFA didn’t get the opportunity to talk to them about their range of vinyls. Overall it seemed like they had a good show!
The other stand out exhibitor is not yet a member but has a sensational product which keeps catching our eye at exhibitions; Anne Kyyrö Quinn’s sculptural acoustic textile creations. These panels are custom-made to individual, site-specific requirements and are available in a wide range of pattern structures available in felt, leather and silk.
Unfortunately the BCFA were very disappointed with the display area dedicated to the Surface Design Awards, it was rather flat and dull and practically impossible to view the nominees submissions, this was a great shame especially as we were unable to attend on the Thursday when the awards were presented.
BCFA member Silent Gliss have a permanent showroom within the BDC so we also took the opportunity to pop in and catch up. Sue and I absolutely love their amazing ‘Wave’ vertical blind.
