Material choices in commercial interiors have never mattered more. From inclusivity and functionality to sustainability and long-term value, materiality sits at the heart of design decision-making.
That’s why five leading Commercial Interiors UK members- Ulster Carpets, Panaz, Hypnos Beds, Newmor Wallcoverings, and Harlequin have joined forces to host Material Impact – Designing with Purpose, a live panel discussion exploring how British-made products, materiality, sustainable sourcing, and transparent credentials are shaping hospitality design.
Taking place on Monday 20th May at 4.30pm, the event will be hosted at Ulster Carpets’ London showroom, and the conversation will be guided by Alys Bryan, Editorial Director of Design Insider, Commercial Interiors UK’s media partner.

Alys will be joined by a powerhouse panel of industry leaders:
Sam Hall, Director, Interior Design – Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts
Tom Thorogood, Partner and Co-Head of Interiors, Studio Moren
Joanna Knight, Co-founder, The Sustainable Design Partnership
Jack Pringle, MD of Studio Pringle, chair of RIBA Board
Together, they will explore the evolving priorities around materiality- from tactile quality and product performance to cultural connection and long-term value. The conversation will examine how materials are selected to deliver both practical and emotional impact within hospitality environments.
The panel will also discuss the vital role manufacturers play in supporting sustainable design ambitions, offering innovative solutions that respond to the pressures of commercial interiors. They will consider lifetime costing, the value of transparency in the supply chain, and the growing importance of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
This event offers the opportunity for designers, specifiers, operators, and procurement professionals to hear first-hand how materiality and sustainability is being tackled from multiple angles across the supply chain and how purposeful material choices can contribute to long-term value in interior projects.
Following the panel, guests are invited to stay for food and drinks, offering a relaxed environment to continue the conversation and connect with peers from across the industry.
