Carolyn Mitchell Appointed as the New Chair of the BCFA

Carolyn Mitchell, the Sales & Marketing Director at Hypnos Contract Beds, has been elected as the new Chair of the BCFA following the BCFA AGM. Carolyn has taken over the Chair from Lee Marvin who held the Chair’s seat on the Board for the last 3 years and who guided the BCFA through a challenging period during the pandemic.

A BCFA board director for over 20 years, there are few in the contract furnishing industry that don’t know Carolyn Mitchell. In 2005, early in her career she became the youngest ever Chair of the British Contract Furnishing Association, and to this day is the only woman who has held the position.

After studying fine art and textile design at Nottingham university, she has spent her career in the interiors sector, building and leading successful commercial sales divisions for some of the best British interior brands. In 2020, Carolyn, joined Hypnos Contract Beds as Sales and Marketing Director.

In taking on the role Carolyn said:

Sixteen years after first being appointed Chair of the BCFA, I am incredibly proud to be asked to stand again as the BCFA celebrates its 50th anniversary year. I have to say the industry faced a challenging time in 2005, albeit for different economic and social reasons.  I know this time will be no exception for our members.”

“I believe as I did back then, that our membership is looking for strong leadership, action, focus, passion and drive from their trade body. Communities, teams and family have never been so important as they are today. Working together and supporting each other makes a huge difference, in the workplace as well as at home. The BCFA and all our members are stronger together, supporting each other, meaning our association is more relevant now as it’s ever been.”

It is a huge honour for me to take the Chair for second time. As the only female to have held this position it is important to me personally to ensure a diverse leadership team of men and women on the board and council. We are looking for future leaders, to ensure we build a strong succession plan, and I look forward to working with our membership to make this happen.”
