In 1997, when Britain was rediscovering pride in its creativity, John Fearon and James Bassant saw an opportunity to re-establish British lighting design and bring it to an international audience.
Astro’s first home was a basement in Sevenoaks, but its designs quickly gained currency in the lighting world, particularly when new regulations for bathroom lighting came along. Seen as a problem by many, Astro recognised an opportunity and soon became the go-to brand for bathroom lighting.
Nearly 20 years on Astro has just moved to a new, purpose-built, 86,000 sq ft premises in Harlow, from where it delivers an in-house designed range of bathroom, bedroom, living and outside lighting to some 70 countries around the world.
Astro’s creative ethos has remained consistent throughout – that good design demands simplicity. Thanks to this, Astro’s design language sets the tone from big city hotels to boutique hideaways and luxury resorts.
And with the needs of the contract market in mind, Astro’s prioritisation of stock availability as a core strategy has helped it build a reputation as a truly dependable supplier.
