BCFA Inspire Seminar Review

Last night the BCFA hosted its first INSPIRE seminar in the beautiful setting of Chandos House. And what a great first event it was with an impressive turnout and brilliant speakers.

The afternoon session kicked off with Peter Abraham from WeAreCrank who took us on a journey of discovery, looking at how the  latest apps and websites are disrupting the established players in a range of sectors. He then explored how BCFA members can learn from these examples and start to develop their own digital platforms for the contract sector.

Our second speaker was the highly engaging Dr Craig Knight a founding director of Haddleton Knight who challenged the status quo of office design. Looking at office design over the last 150 years and based on peer reviewed research he looked at what ‘good design’ actually means, and how designers can learn from  ‘wellness’ in the care sector. The findings were very often at odds with current office design practice. (Check out the Designer’s Muse Interview we did with Dr Craig Knight to find out more).

Cath Bishop the former World Champion and Olympic Silver medallist Olympic rower and British Diplomat finished off the talks with an inspiring examination of how you can achieve your goals under pressure. Taking us through her experiences of loss and elation in her rowing and diplomat career she explored how members can use clarity, constant learning and collaboration to develop high performance teams.

The evening ended with drinks on the terrace and with the speakers chatting with the attendees and exploring some of the issues raised in greater depth.

Harvey Ockrim from Satelliet who attended the event stated;

“The event was outstanding and I was very impressed with all three speakers and took a lot away from the meeting.”

Tracyellen Whelan from GX Glass  added;

“I enjoyed both the opportunity to network and equally the 3 speakers who were thought provoking and engaging.”

We will be releasing the highlights of the 3 speakers over the next couple of weeks on the BCFA and Design Insider websites.
